The region of Eastern Westphalia (Ostwestfalen-Lippe, OWL for short) is the most northeastern administrative district in the federal state of North-Rhine Westphalia. Covering approximately one-fifth of the state, it has a population of more than 2 million.
It is one of the strongest business locations in Germany. Internationally known companies in the region include Benteler, Bertelsmann, Claas, Dr. Oetker, Gerry Weber, Gildemeister, Melitta, Miele, Schüco, and Wincor Nixdorf.
Eastern Westphalia offers a lot of different landscapes: The Teutoburg Forest, the Wiehen and Egge hills, the river valleys of the Weser, Ems, and Lippe all invite you to come and explore them. One major cultural feature is the "Garten-Landschaft OWL" providing access and guides to more than 200 gardens and parks as well as premium cultural events such as "Wege durch das Land".
Eastern Westphalia lies at the heart of Germany and Europe and has good transport links. The major international and national East-West road
routes the A2, A30, and A44 and their North-South connections, the A7 and A1 offer fast connections in all directions. These are joined by
waterways (the Mittelland Canal, the River Weser), fast ICE and IC passenger railway connections, and the
