To get enrolled at Bielefeld University, you have to apply directly at the student's office (Studierendensekretariat). You will find the office at D0-104.

As an enrolled Ph.D.-student at Bielefeld University you will get the "Semesterticket" to use all buses, trams and trains in North-Rhine-Westphalia. To get the ticket you have to pay the social contributions ("Sozialbeitrag") and sign up here to download it. The ticket is valid for the whole semester. Within Bielefeld a valid Unicard with another form of personal ID is also regarded as a valid ticket.

The InterKontakt-Program was created in order to support international PhD students and Post-Docs at Bielefeld University. It provides them with a mentor who knows Bielefeld University and has lived in Germany for some time. Mentors are volunteers and help their mentees settle into Bielefeld, find their way around the university and support in administrative matters. They can give useful tips as well as help in making social contacts.
