To get enrolled at Bielefeld University, you have to apply directly at the student's office (Studierendensekretariat). You will find the office at D0-104.

- UniCard
UniCard
The UniCard is the NEW Card at Bielefeld University which substitutes all older cards. The card has the following functions:
- cashless payments in the university
- copying and printing in the HRZ, Canon Shop and library
- Borrowing books at the Library
- Identification as an employee or student
- Access to sport facilities at the university
How to get the UniCard:
- register online with your access details, which you got by mail after getting enrolled at the university or after you got your working contract
- upload your picture here
- you will receive an email when your card is ready to be picked up
- bring your ID or passport and 10 Euros to the InfoPunkt to pick up your card
- insert the card into one of the machines close to the InfoPunkt to validate the card
After that you can start using it.
- Semesterticket NRW - The ticket for the region
As an enrolled Ph.D.-student at Bielefeld University you will get the "Semesterticket" to use all buses, trams and trains in North-Rhine-Westphalia. To get the ticket you have to pay the social contributions ("Sozialbeitrag") and sign up here to download it. The ticket is valid for the whole semester. Within Bielefeld a valid Unicard with another form of personal ID is also regarded as a valid ticket.

Mentoring Programm
© Universität Bielefeld The InterKontakt-Program was created in order to support international PhD students and Post-Docs at Bielefeld University. It provides them with a mentor who knows Bielefeld University and has lived in Germany for some time. Mentors are volunteers and help their mentees settle into Bielefeld, find their way around the university and support in administrative matters. They can give useful tips as well as help in making social contacts.
The three most important goals of the mentoring program:
- Support in matters concerning the university
- Support in administrative matters
- Support in making social contacts
Of course, participation is free of charge!
Call for Volunteers
interKontakt is looking for volunteers from all aspects of the university who would like to support international researchers. Further information (in German) can be found here.
- Servicecenter for Young Researchers
The Servicecenter for young researchers is the central place to go/contact point for all Postdocs, PhDs, and for students who are interested in doing a PhD. Also as an international PhD the Servicecenter can give you a piece of advice abput Your Doctorate.
