Remote working - i.e. working at a different location outside of your workplace at the university - allows you to work from home, but also in a café, on a long train journey or at other locations within Germany. Remote working is regulated in a service agreement (DV "FlexWork") for all staff in administration and service as well as for those researchers who participate in time recording.
All staff in administration and service as well as those researchers who participate in time recording can work remotely, provided they do not have a stationary job - work in the laboratory, in animal care, in service facilities with presence requirements or manual jobs can usually only be carried out remotely in certain work situations. The extent to which new employees can participate in remote working can be discussed in the interview. The details of remote working will be clarified with line managers and colleagues once the employee has been hired. The management of the respective organisational units determine the need for presence.
As there is no need to set up a fixed home office, employees can choose suitable work locations themselves. New employees are given a company laptop that they can use to work from anywhere. The laptop also runs the "softphone": a digital telephone that allows the university telephone number to be used from any location.
Meetings can be digital or hybrid if participants are working remotely. A video conferencing programme is available for digital meetings. For hybrid meetings - some of the participants are on site and some are working remotely - the university has the appropriate hardware available to allow colleagues at the remote workstation to participate digitally.
